Perimeter Security

Perimeter security is the practice of protecting an organization's IT network by establishing a secure boundary between the trusted internal network and untrusted external environments like the internet. This boundary is enforced through a combination of technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and virtual private networks (VPNs) that monitor and control traffic entering or leaving the network. The primary goal of perimeter security is to block unauthorized access, detect threats early, and prevent cyberattacks from penetrating internal systems and sensitive data.

Key components of perimeter security include strong firewalls that filter network traffic based on predefined rules, IDS/IPS that analyze traffic for suspicious activity, and access controls like multi-factor authentication and network segmentation to limit exposure.
